The Weight of Air

A Memoir of Trauma, Survival, and the Fight to Breathe Again

The Weight of Air is Heather Joy’s debut memoir of resilience, survival, and self-forgiveness, told through the collision of professional and personal trauma during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a registered respiratory therapist working the front lines in a COVID hotspot, Heather lived inside the relentless pressure of failing lungs, impossible decisions, and the emotional whiplash the public never fully saw.

But there is a kind of suffocation no monitor can measure: the silence after trauma, the shame that lodges in the throat, the way the body remembers what the mind tries to outrun.

A powerful memoir of survival, resilience, healing, reclaiming your voice, and finding the way back to yourself.
